May is Mental Health Awareness Month. That’s why all month long, we’ll be sharing our mental health offerings and highlighting the continuing need for mental health services in Sonoma County.

According to the 2020 Sonoma County Point in Time Count, 40% of those experiencing homelessness suffer from psychiatric/emotional conditions, 29% have post traumatic stress, 36% suffer from drug/alcohol abuse, and 39% have a history of domestic violence. “We know that people with mental illness are at greater risk of homelessness,” said CEO Chuck Fernandez in his September 2020 Virtual Coffee. “We also know that the stress of being homeless intensifies mental illness and can exacerbate anxiety, fear, depression, drug use, and more.”

That’s why we’re always working at creating new partnerships, programs, and offerings so we can increase our ability to serve and improve the wellbeing of our clients. This is just one of the many ways we can increase our clients’ abilities to find and keep housing, and stay healthy and happy as they continue on in their journeys.

We hope you’ll join us all month long as we look at the importance of being able to provide quality mental health support for those we serve. Thank you for supporting COTS!
