Thank you for your interest in volunteering at COTS

Update: Please read the COVID-19 Virus Prevention Protocols for Volunteers here.

Hundreds of volunteers give over 40,000 hours a year of their precious time to our work — the equivalent of about 21 full-time employees. We look forward to getting to know you, learning about your talents and interests, and matching you to just the right volunteer opportunity.

See below for the volunteer opportunities we have available at COTS.

Volunteer Opportunities

Types of Volunteers

We have volunteers from all walks of life who are committed to serving COTS clients. On any given day, you might meet someone who has volunteered for decades, a newly retired couple, a high school student, or even a member of the Coast Guard.

We accept volunteers on both a short-term and long-term basis. Our core volunteers commit to volunteering on a regular basis for one year. This is a great way to build long-lasting friendships. Prospective core volunteers are encouraged to tour our facility before making a commitment. Please see the Tours section below for more information.

We talk about our families, our circle of friends, the meaning of life. It’s one of the ways you can get together with someone without spending money or consuming anything.

A COTS Core Volunteer on volunteering in our kitchen

Most of our volunteer opportunities are in the kitchen at the Mary Isaak Center. Shifts are generally scheduled for a set number of hours which vary by position. Therefore, volunteers are expected to remain for their entire shift, except in emergencies.

At any given time, we might need help with the following:

    • Picking up and dropping off groceries
    • Prepping and serving meals
    • Sorting food
    • Washing dishes
    • Cleaning

We occasionally have opportunities for volunteering with children at our Kids First Family Shelter or helping with administrative duties at the Mary Isaak Center.

You may contact our Engagement Specialist at or (707) 765-6530 ext. 136 for information on our current opportunities.

Our Engagement Specialist is happy to offer tours to groups and prospective core volunteers. If you would like a tour, please inquire at or (707) 765-6530 ext. 136 for availability.
